Shoebox Bobby Productions is an independent film production company founded in 2008 by Kurt Mercer.

Waking Wallbauer is the first film to be completed under Bobby's banner.


Kurt Mercer Producer / Writer / Actor

A New York City actor for many years, performing regional theater and Off-Off Broadway, in roles ranging from the classics to more contemporary works such as Mamet’s Oleanna, Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor, and Kafka’s The Trial. He originated the role of Jimmy onstage in To Die For (1995, Columbia).

Television appearances includes One Life To Live, Guiding Light. His third short film, In The Pocket (Writer/Producer/Director/Actor) took a Bronze Remi at Houston Worldfest, and a Best Actor at Visionfest, Tribeca Film Center in 2001. Others include What Sid Did (Writer/Actor), DayDream (Producer/Director), and Stickman (Director) with famed puppeteer Basil Twist.

Helen Cates Producer / Writer

Born and raised in Texas, Helen found her home in Los Angeles where she spent many years performing as an actor in notable films that include Steven Soderbergh’s The Underneath and The Whole Wide World alongside Renée Zellweger. Television credits include The District, Judging Amy, Dharma & Greg, Star Trek, Walker, Texas Ranger, The Michael Richards Show, Strong Medicine, and Streets of Laredo, She was a Founding Member and writer for a sketch comedy group based out of Dallas, The Underground Saints.

Michael Gillis Producer

After years in independent film production, including several as Director of Production of Cineville, Inc, which produced Sundance Award Winning films such as Gas Food Lodging and Mi Vida Loca by Allison Anders, Michael wrote, produced and directed the 35mm festival short film Cabin Steps starring author / actor Malachy McCourt. He subsequently took a position as Producer of Special Editions for Pioneer Entertainment. Upon the introduction of DVD, he formed MogoMedia, producing documentaries, audio commentaries, and other added value interactive features (Misery, Groundhog Day, Escape From New York, Stripes, Rocky, The Karate Kid, The Hitcher, A Few Good Men, Stand by Me, Immortal Beloved).

More recently, MogoMedia has undertaken festival short films, corporate industrial films, and has begun to develop narrative feature film screenplays.
